Online or in-person, our popular Adult French classes for beginners will allow you to develop efficiently all five skills: speaking, interacting, listening, reading and writing; and provides you with a wealth of intercultural insight. French A1.1 curriculum & Prerequisites


In our French for beginner class, A1 Part 1 - Discovery, you will quickly learn the following objectives in just a few classes! (curriculum based on twice-a-week classes)

  • Spell and count;
  • Introduce yourself (greet, name, age, nationality)
  • Give and ask for personal information (name, address, job, email, phone #);
  • Express your likes and dislikes;
  • Name, ask, and give your place of residence;
  • Talk about your family.


There is no prerequisite to enrol in this level: no prior knowledge of French whatsoever!

Alliance Française Vancouver uses modern textbooks for its group classes: Edito A1 from Didier, leader in French as Second Language materials publishing. It is a modern action-based method with exciting topics and up-to-date documents.

(for once-a-week classes, Part A is a prerequisite for Part B).

In this class, students will learn the basics in French:

  • Spell and count;
  • Introduce themself (greet, name, age, nationality)
  • Give and ask for personal information (name, address, dob, email, phone #);
  • Express their likes and dislikes;
  • Name, ask, and give their place of residence;
  • Talk about their family.


Prerequisite: no prior knowledge of French whatsoever (for once-a-week classes, Part 1A is a prerequisite for Part 1B).

Textbooks: EDITO A1, Unit 0, unit 1 + unit 2.
NEW STUDENTS: For online classes: books to be picked up in our premises (no delivery). For in-person classes: the teacher will give the books on the first day of class.
Please note the curriculum displayed is based on a full level of twice-a-week classes. For once-a-week classes, students will need Part A and Part B to complete the level.

From only $15.6/hour. All prices are subject to change without notice. Books and registration fees are not included in the tuition fee. To cover one book, you will need to take 4 sessions of classes twice a week (or equivalent).
