The Diploma in French for Tourism, Hospitality and Catering assesses the level candidates have attained in comprehension and expression, both written and oral, by evaluating their performance of professional tasks: reservations, advising clients, or giving guided tours.
Who is it for? This diploma responds to a need for training and certification in professional French among the staff of
restaurants, hotels, or travel agencies who are not native speakers of French, in view of their engagement with French-speaking clientele,
or their advancement in a French-speaking market.
This diploma is intended for professionals in the hotel, tourism and food service sectors whose tasks include receiving customers. Some
examples might be receptionists, station attendants, travel agents, tour operators, tour guides, activity leaders, servers, and headwaiters.
Need to prepare for the exam? Alliance Française Vancouver is offering an online program for adult students based on the contents needed to prepare for the Diplomas in French for Professions (DFP).
Examples of activities and topics covered:
Activities: Taking an order, greeting a customer, responding to guest comments on a forum, presenting a plan for a guided tour, writing
promotional copy for a touristic offer, explaining a map and providing advice to a client.
Themes: Gastronomy, tourism, hotels, travel.
A2 Intermediate
Can understand the essential elements of administrative documents (passport, identity card) and messages from clients.
Can fill in standard professional documents and write simple e-mails in response to requests for information, confirmation or
cancellation, in predictable situations.
Can understand the essence of simple requests and short, predictable messages, face to face or on the telephone in the commonest
reception situations.
Can welcome a client, describe a tourist product and exchange factual information in a simple manner in a limited number of practical, common situations.
B1 Independent
Can understand the essential elements of professional documents aimed at clients (menus, brochures, plans, activity programmes, and
descriptions of tourist facilities) and messages from clients.
Can complete standard professional documents and write made-to-measure proposals, particularly in response to requests from clients for services, and provide personalised responses to comments from clients.
Can understand the essence of requests and messages from clients or service-providers, face to face or over the telephone, in both common and unforeseen situations.
Can present a tourism product in a personalised and well-argued manner, and start a guided visit by announcing the programme.
B2 Advanced
Can understand specialised information relating to tourism (guides, specialised press, specialised books: history, geography,
architecture, etc.)
Can understand and respond to complaints and provide a personalised solution.
Can write promotional text for a tourist product.
Can present information in a structured, attractive and original manner, in order to persuade and captivate his/her client or audience.

The Diploma in French
for International Relations
was created at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the International Organisation of la
Francophonie. Both institutions support the use of the French language within international organizations and in international political
and diplomatic exchanges.
This diploma was created with the pedagogical collaboration of the French Department of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.
It assesses the level candidates have attained in comprehension and expression, both written and oral, by evaluating their performance of
professional tasks specific to the field of international relations: articles, conventions, presentations, negotiations.
It responds to the need for training and certification in professional French among diplomats, international officials, and journalists,
whose first or second working language is often French.
Who is it for? This diploma is intended especially for executives from international or regional organizations who need to
use French in the context of their professional activity, national administrative officials likely to play a role in the work of
international or European institutions, and journalists.
Need to prepare for the exam? Alliance Française Vancouver is offering an online program for adult students based on the contents needed to prepare for the Diplomas in French for Professions (DFP).
Examples of activities and topics covered:
Activities: Write a summary note, comment on country data, summarize news items, organize a formal event, write an official statement,
present a mission or a project, present a country situation, get support in the field, make a thematic presentation, present a position
during a negotiation.
Themes: Diplomacy, economics, education, human rights, finance, peacekeeping, ecology.
B1 Independent
Can understand the essential elements of informational documents (numerical data, short press articles, protocol guide extracts,
regulations, etc.) and of both internal (colleagues) and external (international partners) messages.
Can process or fill out the normal professional documents (commentary on data, press reviews, formal event preparation forms, employment application forms, country files, etc.) most commonly found in the international relations professions.
Can choose from the elements provided and organize them in a given format, write simple formal e-mails asking for information or for a response or confirmation in the common professional situations.
Can participate in common exchanges in their professional context, to present their institution, or the situation of country or a mission, or explain or negotiate important aspects of an activity.
B2 Advanced
Can understand the important details of the majority of professional written material in an international relations context.
Can identify the relevant information in professional documents (notes, e-mails, documents containing figures, action plans, procedures, instructions, etc.) so as to take effective action.
Can understand long and structured presentations or interactions, and to take notes in order to draft statements, summaries, reports, etc.
Can present structured information on major international themes (diplomacy, education, health, culture, security, etc.), and present
relevant arguments so as to convince the persons to whom they are speaking or their audience.
Can react to arguments presented by others and defend a point of view in presentation or formal interaction situations (meeting, round
tables, forums, etc.) whether face-to-face or by phone/videoconference.

Results will be sent via e-mail within 4 to 6 weeks after the examination date.
The candidates will be notified of the exact time of the DFP exam on their notification letter. All candidates must read and agree to the
registration policies. Prices subject to change without notice. Our members have
a 10% discount on DFP tests. Reprint of the "attestation de résultats" (error/misprint) is $35. Duplicata of your DFP exam
results: $25. Aside from the oral expression test, all tests are completed on computers. Registration to the DFP is final. Neither
transfer, refund nor credit will be granted.
