The Event 

Organized by the Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver, Alliance Française Vancouver and EUNIC Canada-Vancouver, the 2025 meeting of the Italian EU Book Club, moderated by Prof. Michela Valmori, will focus on one of Italy’s most iconic literary masterpieces, the classic novel by G. Tomasi di Lampedusa, Il Gattopardo (“The Leopard”).

Organisée par le Consulat général d'Italie à Vancouver, l'Alliance Française Vancouver et EUNIC Canada-Vancouver, le EU Book Club Italy, animé par la professeure Michela Valmori, se concentrera sur l'un des chefs-d'œuvre littéraires les plus emblématiques de l'Italie, le roman classique de G. Tomasi di Lampedusa, Il Gattopardo (« Le Léopard »).

Published posthumously in 1958, this richly evocative novel offers a powerful portrait of Sicily during Italy’s unification (1860 and following years), seen through the eyes of the proud yet fading Salina family. The Author

Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (1896–1957) was an Italian writer best known for his novel Il Gattopardo (The Leopard), published after his death in 1958. The novel, which won the prestigious Strega Prize, explores the decline of the Sicilian aristocracy during the unification of Italy. Drawing from his family history, Tomasi di Lampedusa crafted a richly detailed narrative that remains a cornerstone of Italian literature. Despite his literary success, The Leopard was his only novel.

Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa (1896-1957) était un écrivain italien surtout connu pour son roman Il Gattopardo (Le Léopard), publié après sa mort en 1958. Ce roman, qui a remporté le prestigieux prix Strega, explore le déclin de l'aristocratie sicilienne pendant l'unification de l'Italie. S'inspirant de l'histoire de sa famille, Tomasi di Lampedusa a élaboré un récit richement détaillé qui reste une pierre angulaire de la littérature italienne. Malgré son succès littéraire, Le Léopard est son seul roman.
