On November 17, 2017, the French Ameri-Can Climate Talks - Oceans (FACT-O) will be traveling to Vancouver to hold a conference highlighting   the impact of the climate change on the Biodiversity in deep ocean from the  perspectives of France and Canada. Held at Beaty Biodiversity Museum, UBC in Vancouver, the conference will welcome a variety of panelists from France and Canada to discuss the issue in detail. FACT-O is a series of workshops that brings together scientists, representatives of NGOs and institutions in charge of ocean protection. Designed for the general public and scientists, these events aim at disseminating knowledge, sharing experiences and fostering  Franco-Canadian partnerships.

CONFERENCE FOR YOUTH IN FRENCH 

4pm to 5pm

Free access for young attendees* to the museum from 2pm
*A complementary free ticket will be offered to ONE accompanying adult per child.

A youth program in French  (from 10 years old), co-organized by Alliance Française, will be held at the Beaty Biodiversity before the conference in order to bring awareness of these issues to the new generation

PUBLIC ROUND TABLE

5:30pm to 7pm

The roundtable will feature a variety of scientists, representatives of NGOs and institutions from France and Canada to discuss the issue in detail. Five panelists will be there:  William Cheung, Kim Juniper, Laura Lallier, Daniel Pauly and Loreley Picourt.
The event will be moderated by  Geoff Dembicki.
Stay after the conference to meet the panelists and continue the discussion around Biodiversity & Deep Ocean with a glass of wine and some canapés.

Daniel Pauly and Loreley Picourt will both participate in the Conference for youth and the Public Round Table.

Daniel Pauly, French-born marine biologist, will have the opportunity to talk about Sea level rise and marine resources. Daniel Pauly is well known for his work in studying human impacts on global fisheries. He is a professor and the project leader of the Sea Around Us Project at the UBC Fisheries Centre at the University of British Columbia.

He is the co-founder of "fishbase.org", an online encyclopedia which lists more than 30.000 fish species. He has also written several books and published more than 500 scientific papers.

Loreley Picourt is the Head of Initiatives at the Ocean & Climate Initiatives Alliance (OCIA), which is supported by the Ocean and Climate Platform, UNESCO-IOC, and France. OCIA was designed to consolidate and coordinate the concrete actions initiated by individual partnerships to address the interlinkages between climate change and ocean protection. OCIA aims at promoting ‘a united ocean action for a global climate agenda’ and is fully integrated in the Global Climate Action Agenda.

Le 17 novembre 2017, French Ameri-Can Climate Talks - Oceans (FACT-O) tiendra une conférence à Vancouver mettant en avant les   impacts du changement climatique sur la biodiversité des océans profonds, des points de vue de la France et du Canada. La conférence aura lieu au Beaty Biodiversity Museum (UBC) à Vancouver et accueillera plusieurs intervenants français et canadiens qui discuteront du sujet en détails. FACT-O est une série d’ateliers qui rassemblent des scientifiques, des représentants d’ONG et d’institutions en charge de la protection de l’océan. Destinés au grand public et aux scientifiques, ces évènements ont pour objectif de diffuser les connaissances, de partager les expériences et promouvoir les partenariats franco-canadiens.

Entrée gratuite pour les enfants* au musée à partir de 14h!
Un programme en français destiné à la jeunesse (à partir de 10 ans), co-organisé par l'Alliance Française, se tiendra au Beaty Biodiversity avant la conférence afin de sensibiliser la nouvelle génération à ces questions.

Cette table ronde accueillera divers scientifiques et représentants d'ONG et d'institutions de France et du Canada afin de discuter du thème plus en détails. Cinq panélistes seront présents: William Cheung, Kim Juniper, Laura Lallier, Daniel Pauly and Loreley Picourt. La discussion sera annimée par  Geoff Dembicki.
Vous êtes invités à rencontrer les panélistes après la conférence et poursuivre la discussion sur la biodiversité et les océans profonds autour d'un verre de vin et de canapés.

Daniel Pauly et Loreley Picourt seront tous deux intervenants pour la conférence jeunesse en français et pour la table ronde publique.

Daniel Pauly, chercheur et professeur en biologie marine de UBC, interviendra sur la question des ressources maritimes et de la montée des eaux. Aujourd’hui chercheur au ‘’Sea Around Us’’, Daniel Pauly est un expert de renommée mondiale dans le domaine halieutique.Il a notamment créé le projet «Sea around us» en 1999 qui a pour objectif de cartographier les prises de pêche sur tous les océans et ainsi pouvoir étudier l'impact de la surpêche sur les réserves marines en poissons. Il a aussi été directeur du "Fisheries Centre" de UBC entre 2003 et 2008.

Il est mondialement reconnu pour ses travaux sur l’impact de l’Homme sur la pêche mondiale. Il est le co-fondateur de l’encyclopédie en ligne "fishbase.org", qui recense plus de 30.000 espèces de poissons. Il a aussi écrit de nombreux livres et publié plus de 500 articles scientifiques.

Reconnu par les plus grandes instances françaises, Daniel Pauly a reçu la médaille Roger Revelle de IOC-UNESCO en 2004 et le Grand Prix de la société française d’écologie en 2011.

Loreley Picourt est Responsable des Actions à L’Alliance d’initiatives océan et climat (AIOC), soutenue par Plateforme Océan et Climat, l’IOC-UNESCO et la France. AIOC a été créée dans le but de consolider et coordonner les actions concrètes initiées par des partenariats individuels afin de traiter la question des liens entre le changement climatique et la protection de l’océan. L’AIOC vise à promouvoir « une action conjointe pour un agenda du climat global » et est entièrement intégrée au sein de l’Agenda climatique global de l’action (Global Climate Action Agenda).
