« Il disait qu’il m’aimait. Il disait que c’est pour pouvoir exprimer cet amour qu’il me faisait ce qu’il me faisait, il disait que son souhait le plus cher était que je l’aime en retour. Il disait que s’il avait commencé à s’approcher de moi de cette manière, à me toucher, me caresser c’est parce qu’il avait besoin d’un contact plus étroit avec moi, parce que je refusais de me montrer douce, parce que je ne lui disais pas que je l’aimais. Ensuite, il me punissait de mon indifférence à son égard par des actes sexuels. » 

Entre 7 et 14 ans, la petite Neige est violée régulièrement par son beau-père. La famille recomposée vit dans les Alpes, dans les années 90, et mène une vie de bohème un peu marginale. En 2000, Neige et sa mère portent plainte et l’homme est condamné, au terme d’un procès, à neuf ans de réclusion. Des années plus tard, Neige Sinno livre un récit déchirant sur ce qui lui est arrivé. Sans pathos, sans plainte. Elle tente de dégoupiller littéralement ce qu’elle appelle sa « petite bombe ». Il ne s’agit pas seulement de l’histoire glaçante que le texte raconte, son histoire, une enfant soumise à des viols systématiques par un adulte qui aurait dû la protéger. Il s’agit aussi de la manière dont fonctionne ce texte, qui nous entraîne dans une réflexion sensible, intelligente, et d’une sincérité tranchante. Ce livre est un récit confession qui porte autant sur les faits et leur impossible explication que sur la possibilité de les dire, de les entendre. C’est une exploration autant sur le pouvoir que sur l’impuissance de la littérature. Pour se raconter, la narratrice doit interroger d’autres textes, d’autres histoires. Elle nous entraîne dans une relecture radicale de Lolita de Nabokov, ou de Virginia Woolf, et de nombreux autres textes sur l’inceste et le viol (Toni Morrison, Christine Angot, Virginie Despentes). Comment raconter le « monstre », « ce qui se passe dans la tête du bourreau », ne pas se contenter du point de vue de la victime ? Jusqu’à reprendre la question que le poète William Blake adressait au Tigre : « Comment Celui qui créa l’Agneau a-t-il pu te créer ? » (The Tyger). Le récit de Neige Sinno nous fait alors entrer dans la communauté de celles et ceux qui ont connu « l’autre lieu », celui de la nuit et du mal, qui ont pu s’en extraire mais qui en sont à jamais marqués, et se tiennent ainsi à la frontière des ténèbres et du jour. Nulle résilience. Aucun oubli ni pardon. Juste tenter de tenir debout, écrire son récit comme une « petite bombe artisanale qu’on fait exploser tout seul chez soi, dans l’intimité de la lecture. Elle a l’intensité et la fragilité des choses conçues dans la solitude et la colère. Elle en a aussi la folle et ridicule ambition, qui est de faire voler ce monde en éclats. »

He said that he started approaching me in this way, touching me, caressing me because he needed closer contact with me, because I refused to show him affection, because I didn't tell him that I loved him. Then he punished my indifference towards him with sexual acts." 

Between the ages of 7 and 14, little Neige is regularly raped by her stepfather. The blended family lives in the Alps in the 90s, leading a somewhat marginal bohemian life. In 2000, Neige and her mother file a complaint, and the man is sentenced, after a trial, to nine years in prison. Years later, Neige Sinno delivers a heartbreaking account of what happened to her. Without pathos, without complaint, she tries to literally defuse what she calls her "little bomb". It is not just about the chilling story that the text tells, her story, a child subjected to systematic rape by an adult who should have protected her. It is also about how this text works, leading us into a sensitive, intelligent reflection, and with sharp sincerity. This book is a confessional narrative that focuses as much on the facts and their impossible explanation as on the possibility of expressing them, of hearing them. It is an exploration of both the power and the impotence of literature. To tell her story, the narrator must question other texts, other stories. She leads us into a radical reinterpretation of Nabokov's Lolita, or of Virginia Woolf, and many other texts on incest and rape (Toni Morrison, Christine Angot, Virginie Despentes). How to tell the story of the "monster", "what happens in the mind of the perpetrator", without just taking the victim's perspective? To the point of revisiting the question that poet William Blake asked the Tiger: "How could He who made the Lamb make thee?" (The Tyger). Neige Sinno's narrative then takes us into the community of those who have known "the other place", that of night and evil, who have managed to escape but are forever marked by it, standing at the border between darkness and light. No resilience. No forgetting or forgiveness. Just trying to stand tall, writing her story like a "little homemade bomb that you explode alone at home, in the intimacy of reading. It has the intensity and fragility of things conceived in solitude and anger. It also has the wild and ridiculous ambition to blow this world to pieces."

Neige Sinno est une romancière française née en 1977 dans les Hautes-Alpes. Elle a grandi dans un environnement hippie et a vécu une enfance marquée par des abus sexuels perpétrés par son beau-père, qu'elle raconte dans son livre. Elle a commencé à écrire ce récit après avoir participé à des rencontres zapatistes sur les violences faites aux femmes au Chiapas en 2018, ce qui l'a convaincue de partager son histoire. 
Son ouvrage, publié aux éditions P.O.L en août 2023, a reçu plusieurs distinctions littéraires, dont le prix Femina, le prix Goncourt des lycéens, et le prix Les Inrockuptibles. Triste Tigre explore les traumatismes de l'inceste et la domination par le langage, en offrant un témoignage poignant et une réflexion profonde sur le pouvoir et l'impuissance de la littérature à traiter de tels sujets.

Neige Sinno is a French novelist born in 1977 in the Hautes-Alpes. She grew up in a hippie environment and experienced a childhood marked by sexual abuse perpetrated by her stepfather, which she recounts in her book. She began writing this account after participating in Zapatista meetings on violence against women in Chiapas in 2018, which convinced her to share her story. 
Her work, published by P.O.L in August 2023, has received several literary awards, including the Prix Femina, the Prix Goncourt des Lycéens, and the Prix Les Inrockuptibles. Triste Tigre explores the traumas of incest and the domination through language, offering a poignant testimony and a profound reflection on the power and impotence of literature to address such subjects.
