L'artiste parisien Raphaël Zarka et Cameron Kerr, basé à Vancouver, créent tous deux des œuvres qui
explorent l'histoire de l'art et du design modernes. En abordant nos environnements contemporains,
qu'ils soient urbains ou ruraux, ils attirent l'attention sur un conflit allégorique entre nature et culture, ainsi qu'entre architecture
et corps. Les deux artistes utilisent des matériaux naturels de la Colombie-Britannique, allant du marbre et du cèdre de
l'île de Vancouver au sapin de Douglas récupéré du continent. Leur travail révèle également un intérêt commun pour des actes de langage
pédestres, comme le skateboard. C'est cette impulsion qui a initialement réuni les deux artistes lors de l'exposition Out
of Control: The Concrete Art of Skateboarding
au Audain Art Museum de Whistler en 2022/23 — une exposition majeure explorant l'intersection entre l'art et le skateboard.

Paris based artist Raphaël Zarka and Vancouver’s Cameron Kerr both make art that mines the histories
of modern art and design.
Addressing our contemporary urban and rural environments, they draw attention to an allegorical conflict
between nature and culture as well as architecture and bodies. Both artists employ materials natural to British Columbia
ranging from marble and cedar from Vancouver Island to salvaged Douglas Fir from the mainland of B.C.. In their work we also find a shared
interest in pedestrian speech acts such as skateboarding. It was this impulse that initially brought the two artists
together in the exhibition Out of Control: The Concrete Art of Skateboarding for Whistler’s Audain Art Museum in 2022/23 — a
major exhibition addressing the intersection between art and skateboarding.

Après avoir étudié à l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, à l'Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design, et à

Having studied at Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara, the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design, and the
University of British Columbia, where he completed his MFA, Cameron Kerr has worked across media in the expanded field of sculpture. He is
interested in how images strike us and the effects of technology on aesthetic perception. Whether in photographs, paintings, prints, or
sculptures, what appears more than anything in Kerr’s practice are repetitive structures and patterns to which our bodies respond. According
to Kerr, this attention to form derives from his attempt to reconcile images that recur in his dreams with images he finds repeated in the
built and natural environments (nature, art, architecture, and design). Over the past two decades, he has exhibited internationally in solo
and group exhibitions including at the Polygon Art Gallery, Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art (North Vancouver), the Morris and Helen
Belkin Art Gallery (UBC), Audain Art Museum (Whistler). He has produced numerous public and private art commissions including Pattern
Reflection at 12th and Cambie Street and Mind Crystal on Georgia and Hamilton Street, Vancouver.

Zarka’s work is fundamentally rooted in the expanded field of sculpture. For many years a skateboarder and
the author of several books on its history, Zarka puts forth an idea of skateboarding as a kind of re-writing of spaces destined for a
particular use, echoing his approach to his artistic practice. He has an extensive exhibition record, with solo and group shows at Centre
Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Koffler
Centre of the Arts (Toronto),
National Museum of Romania (Bucharest), Modern Art Oxford, Palazzo Fortuni (Venice), MAXXI and MACRO (Rome), and Fondation Hermès
